The Power Of The Tongue
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue…” (Proverbs 18:21). What a powerful statement from the Bible! If this is true, and we know it is, then it would be wise for us to watch what we say. Do you ever speak “death”? Here are just a few statements of death that people make all the time. Remember, words are powerful. (Notice that these statements are contrary to the Word of God!) “I just love her to death!” (Why don’t you love her to life?) In John 6:63, Jesus says “It is the spirit that quickens; the flesh profits nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are the spirit, and they are life.” “That just tickles me to death!” (Why death?) “I’m poor but proud.” (2 Corinthians 8:9 says “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might be rich.” And 1 Peter 5:5 says in part that “…God resists the proud…”) “I’m sick.” (1 Peter 2:24 says “…by Whose (Jesus) stripes you were healed.” Isaiah 33:24 says “And the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick…”) “I’m afraid.” “I’m scared.” (2 Thessalonians 3:3 says “But the Lord is faithful, Who shall establish you, and keep you from evil”. 2 Timothy 1:7 says “For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind”. And Joshua 1:9 says “Have not I commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; be not afraid, neither be dismayed: for the LORD your God is with you where ever you go.” “Take care.” (1 Peter 5:7 says “Casting all your care upon Him; for He cares for you”.) “I can’t.” (Philippians 4:13 says “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me”. “I’m doing pretty good under the circumstances.” (Deuteronomy 28:13 says that we “…shall be above only, and not beneath…”. “That chocolate cake is to die for!” (I love chocolate cake, but not enough to die for it!) “…every man’s word shall be his burden…”. Jeremiah 23:36. You may want to lighten your burden today by the power of your tongue!
